The Rescue of Mayor John
by René Raap

Wolf wasn’t happy with the current situation. And if Wolf wasn't happy, nobody would be...

In peaceful Merrytown there was a situation. Mayor John had been kidnapped by Col. Wolf’s henchmen. Now Wolf was applying pressure to the Mayor in order to get appointed as Chief of Police.

Mayor John was nice enough, but not known for strength of will. If Wolf held him long enough he would cave in to Wolf's demands.

The police surrounded the building inside which mayor John was held hostage. From time to time a sentry could be seen peering out from the shelter of broken down cars and wrecks in its yard. The police could only stare back.

And it looked like every cop in the Zone had been sent here. They were everywhere, behind cars, on the rooftops, standing by helplessly. If they attempted anything surely no good would happen to their mayor.

The Hostage Rescue Team had finally arrived on the scene and were preparing for action.

As the sentries kept on patrolling the members of the HRT spread out. With so many cops on the scene they wouldn’t attract much attention as long as they kept on the far side of the road, or out of sight.

When everyone was in position their leader ran through the plan once more and he gave them the ‘Go!’.

Quickly but quietly they crossed the road and entered the perimeter. On the south side they spotted a guard.

A silenced muzzle flashed, bullets hit and the first guard was taken down without so much as a sound.

The guards continued patrolling, with no idea of what was going on. Their leader even called a few of them together towards the house.

Meanwhile the rescuers slowly secured their position and crept forward.

The guards were close together now. Shooting any of them would alert the others. What should they do?

Time was running out: Suddenly one of the guards turned and walked toward the hidden HRT members.

The Team leader made his call. As soon as they heard his ‘Go!’ over their comm. units every member of the HRT sprang into action. One sentry each shouldn’t prove to be too difficult.

Ducking from behind their cover they opened up on the sentries. Their aim didn’t match their audacity. Only one sentry was taken down, two others were panicked and the last one remained unharmed.

Without thinking the sentries reacted. They dove for cover and fired their wildly. Despite their initial confusion they managed to take down two of their enemies.

One surviving member of the HRT kept up his fire to suppress the sentries while the other flanked their position. He burst through the door and raised his weapon to shoot the renegade leader.

Wolf's guards had already pulled their triggers and twin bursts took care of the cop.

The others sentries had closed in on the last cop, and he was taken down in front out the TV crew!

Now it was all over. The mayor had succumbed to Wolf. He had signed the agreement and Wolf would be made Commander in Chief.

From now on every cop in Merrytown would be wearing a grey uniform like Wolf! That was his first command decision. And there would be many more to follow!

This scenario was designed to use Arjen Pilon’s Hostage Rescue Sqaud. When I saw them I had to see them in action. The Scenario is HERE.
