AN ONGOING NEWSLETTER May 2011

The Arena
by Gisby

Many years ago we decided to have a Gladiatorial Game. This is what was waiting for us.

I wish I could take the credit, but this was the work of Brian Homenick of Vaubanner Graphics.

He used an autocad program to design the pieces, and print them out on GIANT paper.

First of all, he cut out the plan for each level, and pinned them 3" thick styrofoam insulation.

Using these outlines, he cut out the basic shapes.

He then cut out plans for the exterior walls and pinned them to each level. Using semi-skilled helpers, he then cut out all the arches and windows.

The interior of each level was beveled as appropriate, and each section was glued together, from three pieces.

Interior walls were cut from light card, and glued to the inside.

It's seen almost 20 years of use, but still never fails to impress....
